ORR to contribute to DfT’s review of rail regulation

ORR is the independent safety and economic regulator for Britain’s railways. ORR regulates safety across the whole rail sector, and is the economic regulator for railway infrastructure managers, including Network Rail, High Speed 1, and the UK part of the Channel Tunnel.

ORR Chief Executive Richard Price said:

With the changes to Network Rail’s ownership and finances since it became a public sector company, we agree that a review is appropriate.

DfT’s consultation recognises the importance of independent rail regulation. We look forward to engaging actively in this work, alongside The Shaw Report which will shape the future of our railways.

This work should ensure that we are better placed to help the rail sector build on its successes and deliver for passengers, businesses and taxpayers.
