Today we are celebrating World Statistics Day, a global event supported by the United Nations to recognise the importance of statistics in shaping our societies. Statistics are valuable in highlighting trends, and in many cases causes of these trends, in almost all aspects of our lives – from world market movements to tracking social change and progress.

Changes to the National Rail Conditions of Carriage that come into effect today mean that season ticket holders will no longer have restrictions on the number of replacements for their lost or stolen tickets, and; passengers who are delayed during a rail journey can now choose to be compensated with money instead of rail vouchers.
