To ensure value for money, our procurement activities are subject to different levels of competition based on the value of the expenditure.
The level of competition depends on the value of spend, which in general should be:

| Up to £5,000 | Minimum of a single quote (for example an email, catalogue or internet price, or record of phone conversation) |
| £5,001 - £25,000 | Minimum of 3 written quotes (written quotes can be by email or catalogue or internet price) |
| £25,001 - £177,897.50 (£213,477 inc. VAT) | Formal open competitive tender undertaken by Procurement – tender and contract documentation to be published on the Central Digital Platform and open procedure used |
| £177,897.50 + (£213,477 inc. VAT) | Formal tender procedure as per the Procurement Act 2023 |
