What motivated you to pursue an apprenticeship?

I wanted to kickstart my career through hands-on experience, whilst having the opportunity to develop my skills and behaviours through expert coaching, making an apprenticeship the perfect fit for me.

Can you give us an insight into your day-to-day role at ORR?

I am an Inspector Assistant for the Transport for London team. My role involves ensuring rail operating companies are complying with the law, undertaking inspections, investigations, and responding to incidents and complaints. One day a week, I carry out my apprenticeship duties which includes attending workshops, completing assignments, and interacting with my skills coach to review my progress.

Skills for Life is the theme for National Apprenticeship Week 2024. What specific skills or knowledge are you gaining that you find the most valuable?

My apprenticeship has allowed me to develop my regulatory skills and strengthen my communication skills which has been extremely valuable when collaborating with my colleagues and building working relationships with external business partners.

Can you share a memorable experience you have worked on during your apprenticeship so far?

I have really enjoyed attending the workshops during my time as an apprentice and having the opportunity to learn in an open forum of other apprentices from a variety of industries. Sharing our experience throughout the programme has been a great form of support, and actually, very fun!

In what way do you feel your apprenticeship is preparing you for your future career aspirations?

My apprenticeship has taught me the core values and principles of my role as a regulator to ensure proportionality, professionalism, and accountability in everything I do.

Having almost completed my apprenticeship, I can see how much my confidence has grown, preparing me for my future aspirations as a fully qualified Inspector.
